Why Tajweed Matters

What is Tajweed and Why Learn It?

Tajweed (تجويد) is the set of rules governing the correct pronunciation of the Quran. Allah commands in Surah Al-Muzzammil (73:4): "Recite the Quran with measured recitation (Tarteel)."

Learning Tajweed ensures you recite every letter from its correct point of articulation (Makhraj) with the proper characteristics (Sifaat). This protects the meaning of Allah's words from distortion and earns extra reward.

  • Correct letter pronunciation (Makharij al-Huruf)
  • Proper prolongation rules (Madd)
  • Noon Sakinah & Tanween rules (Ikhfa, Idgham, Iqlab, Izhar)
  • Stopping and starting rules (Waqf & Ibtida)
  • Ghunnah (nasalisation) mastery
📖

The Prophet ﷺ Said:

"The one who recites the Quran proficiently will be with the noble, obedient angels, and the one who recites it with difficulty will have a double reward."
