Morning and evening adhkar (adhkar as-sabah wal-masa) are among the most rewarding daily habits in Islam — yet many Muslims are unsure of the complete list. The Prophet ﷺ never missed his morning and evening remembrances. This guide gives you every essential adhkar with Arabic, transliteration and English in one place.
When to recite morning and evening adhkar
| Adhkar | Best time | Protection until |
|---|---|---|
| Morning adhkar (adhkar as-sabah) | After Fajr until sunrise | Evening (Maghrib) |
| Evening adhkar (adhkar al-masa) | After Asr or after Maghrib | Morning (Fajr next day) |
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever recites the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah at night, they will be sufficient for him." Combined with morning/evening adhkar, you are under Allah's protection around the clock.
Core morning & evening adhkar — full list
1. Ayatul Kursi (once)
Allah — there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence... (Full Ayatul Kursi guide)
Recited once morning and once evening. Whoever recites it morning and evening will be protected (Nasai — hasan).
2. The Three Quls (3 times each)
Recite Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq and An-Nas — each three times — morning and evening. The Prophet ﷺ said this is sufficient for everything (Abu Dawud 5082). See 4 Quls complete guide.
3. Sayyid al-Istighfar (once)
Allaahumma anta rabbee laa ilaaha illaa ant, khalaqtanee wa ana 'abduk...
English: O Allah, You are my Lord. There is no god but You. You created me and I am Your servant... (Full istighfar guide)
Whoever says it with conviction in the morning and dies that day enters Paradise; whoever says it in the evening and dies that night enters Paradise (Bukhari 6306).
4. Hasbiyallahu la ilaha illa huwa (7 times)
Hasbiyallaahu laa ilaaha illaa huwa, 'alayhi tawakkaltu wa huwa rabbul-'arshil-'azeem.
English: Allah is sufficient for me. There is no god but Him. In Him I put my trust. He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne.
Recite 7 times morning and evening. Whoever says this 7 times, Allah will suffice him against all worry (Abu Dawud 5081).
5. La ilaha illallah wahdahu la shareeka lah (100x or 10x)
Laa ilaaha illallaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa 'alaa kulli shay'in qadeer.
English: There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is over all things competent.
Reciting this 100 times daily erases sins even if they are like foam on the sea (Bukhari 6403). See La ilaha illallah meaning.
6. Subhanallah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar (33 each)
The four pillars of dhikr — after Fajr and Maghrib, or after every Salah. Subhanallah 33x, Alhamdulillah 33x, Allahu Akbar 34x. See guides: Subhanallah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar.
10-minute daily adhkar routine
| Step | Adhkar | Count |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Ayatul Kursi | 1x |
| 2 | Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, An-Nas | 3x each |
| 3 | Sayyid al-Istighfar | 1x |
| 4 | Hasbiyallahu la ilaha illa huwa | 7x |
| 5 | Subhanallah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar | 33, 33, 34 |
Do this after Fajr (morning) and after Maghrib (evening). Use a dhikr counter app or prayer beads if helpful — but presence of heart matters more than speed.
