Meaning & Tafsir of Surah Al-Fatiha
Al-Fatiha is a conversation between the servant and Allah. The Prophet ﷺ narrated: "Allah said: 'I have divided the prayer between Myself and My slave into two halves, and My slave shall have what he has asked for.'" (Sahih Muslim 395)
- Verse 1 (Bismillah): Beginning every action with Allah's name establishes intention (niyyah) and seeks His blessing and protection.
- Verse 2 (Al-Hamd): Praising Allah for all His blessings — seen and unseen. "Rabb al-'Alameen" — Lord of everything in existence.
- Verses 3-4 (Ar-Rahman, Ar-Raheem, Malik): Allah's mercy encompasses all His creation. His justice governs the Day of Judgment.
- Verse 5 (Iyyaka): The central declaration — we worship only Allah and depend only on Him. This verse divides Fatiha into praise (1-4) and supplication (5-7).
- Verses 6-7 (Ihdina): The greatest du'a — asking for guidance to the Straight Path, the path of prophets, companions, and the righteous.

- Reciting it is an act of worship accepted by Allah as a personal conversation
- It contains the essence of the entire Quran — praise, monotheism, worship, and supplication
- It protects against evil, disease, and spiritual harm when recited with belief
